  • Everything you love about winter is in Whitefish, comfortably tucked under a magnificent blanket of snow. Winter in Whitefish offers many snow activities such as downhill, backcountry, & Nordic skiing along with snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, & sleigh rides. When the snow flies, thoughts turn to the ski resort at the edge of town. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers more than 3,000 acres of varying terrain. Three beginner areas cater to the first time skier, while the seasoned skiers enjoy 94 marked runs and 14 lifts. Rent equipment on-site or in town.


    If you stay in town, getting to Whitefish Mountain Resort is easy. Just hop on the free Snow bus with stops throughout Whitefish and shuttle between Whitefish and Whitefish Mountain Resort. A huge array of designated Nordic touring trails of varying difficulty is available throughout the Whitefish area with 44 kilometers of groomed trails at three different locations. The Whitefish Lake Golf Club magically transforms into the Glacier Nordic Center in winter, a 12-kilometer Nordic touring center that is tracked and groomed for skating and classic skiing with rentals and lessons available. Night owls can take advantage of the 5 kilometers of lit trails for night skiing.  The Big Mountain Nordic Trails offer 25 kilometers of beautiful and challenging trails and the 6-kilometer Meadow Lake Nordic Trails at Meadow Lake Resort offer some gentle beginner terrain.   Skiing in Glacier National Park takes you through breathtaking scenery. The area offers numerous backcountry skiing options for telemarkers and alpine touring skiers. Guides can also be arranged.

    Whitefish is proud to have an indoor ice rink called the Stumptown Den - complete with Zamboni!  The rink is a popular stop for public skating, adult drop in hockey, youth hockey, figure skating, skating lessons, broomball, and concessions.  The ice is open to the public September through April.

    The area in & around Whitefish offers some of the most pristine snowmobile riding in Montana with elevations from 2,956 feet in Kalispell to just over 7,000 feet in the surrounding mountains. Boarding Glacier National Park you will witness some of the most spectacular beauty man has ever laid eyes on. This area offers over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and nearly 2,000 miles of National Forest Service roads to take you through pristine alpine forests, along ridges with spectacular views and into deep powder bowls.
