    JOB TITLE:              Executive Director
    PAY RANGE:             $45k + DOE
    FLSA:                         Exempt

    SUMMARY
    The Executive Director oversees the activities of the Sparrow’s Nest of Northwest Montana to ensure that all phases of the program are in compliance with local and state regulations.  The Executive Director has a wide variety of interactions with schools, counselors, partner parent programs, and other human service agencies throughout Flathead County.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Directs and leads the organization in setting strategic direction that meets the organization's goals and objectives created in partnership with the Board of Directors and Governance Committee; overseeing finances, grant development, investments, recruitment and stewardship of donors through the fund development plan in partnership with the Fund Development Committee.
    • Prepares reports for and attends the Board of Directors and Committee meetings. Provides strategic vision and leadership for the Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT; monitors issues, trends, and events in the community and advises the board on planned programs of action.
    • Fosters cooperative relationships with government agencies, community groups, and other external partners to enhance and promote the organization. Delivers quality customer service to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
    • Promotes a culture of leadership and transparency within a collaborative, team-oriented environment; supervises, recruits, develops, motivates, and evaluates a team in alignment with job expectations, professional roles, and the Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT’s mission.
    • Creates a multi-year plan for the Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT shaping and managing activities that promote the organization’s mission and enhancing the reputation. Promotes, encourages, and executes programs of continuous assessment and benchmarking of goals. Oversees internal and external communications and marketing/public relations for the organization in collaboration with the Board and Committees.
    • Oversees the promotion, development and organization of Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT events, and represents the organization at various events.
    • Represents the organization to the media and through public speaking engagements, develops and maintains solid working relations with members of the media to enhance and promote the Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT, and attends state and regional meetings and trainings as needed.
    • Oversees the case management and intake process for unaccompanied teens, ensures that teens are provided every opportunity to succeed under the program guidelines and receive the educational opportunities required to graduate from high school through the coordination with area high school and counselors.
    • Develop and maintain sound financial practices, collaborate with the Board and Finance Committee to create the budget and ensure that the organization operates within the constraints of the budget.
    • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in applicable areas, including the field of homelessness, to help build strategic initiatives.
    • Participates actively and with initiative in continuous improvement efforts to provide efficient and quality services.
    • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
    • Reports to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, and/or any related human services field AND three years of supervisory experience in human service related programs.
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience working with homeless youth
    • Master’s degree in related field
     
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Strong skills in internal and external public relations, interviewing, community outreach, group process, and public speaking
    • Demonstrated skill in creating and managing a work climate of collaboration, open communication and team work
    • Strong knowledge of human service delivery systems and related human service programs
    • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning process, project management and grant writing/fund development
    • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in management, governance and human resources
    • Ability to make decisions in high stress situations while maintaining the organization’s integrity
    • Ability to build relationships with teens, facilitate group meetings and trainings
    • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the Sparrow’s Nest of NW MT by interacting appropriately with the community
    • Ability to work within policies and procedures of the organization
    • Ability to work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.
    • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships
    • Ability to follow and issue directions 
    • Demonstrated communication, diplomacy, presentation, customer service, client relationship building, management skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to conduct interviews, complete research, make referrals, and coordinate with other community agencies
    • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
    • Ability to be available by telephone outside of normal business hours
    • Ability to be bonded and provide one’s own reliable transportation for travel within Flathead County
    • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check including fingerprinting and the signing of any state required certification and pre-employment affidavit per Flathead County regulations
    • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
    • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
